Renters can also benefit from the installation of solar panels on their homes. On average, rental properties that install solar panels can expect to save up to $890 per year on their electricity bills.
There will be two streams in the Solar for Rental Properties program:
Stream A will offer a rebate for rental properties and will be open from July 1, with the Landlord paying the remaining cost of the solar system.
A rebate of up to $2,225 is available for rental properties, subject to a Solar Homes Landlord-Tenant Agreement being signed.
The rebate amount will be paid directly to the solar provider and will be deducted from the total cost of your system, with the landlord paying the outstanding balance directly to your provider once installed.
From late 2019, Stream B of the Solar for Rental Properties Program will offer both a rebate and a loan, allowing the tenant to contribute to the cost of the system.
A rebate of up to $2,225 is available for rental properties, subject to a rental lease agreement between the tenants and landlord. To further reduce installation costs, an interest-free loan equivalent to the rebate amount is also available.
The rebate amount and loan will be paid directly to the solar provider via the Solar Victoria Portal and will be deducted from the total cost of your solar system, with the landlord and tenant paying the outstanding balance directly to your provider once installed.
An applicant can apply only once as an owner-occupier (one of solar PV, batteries or hot water only) and once as a landlord (solar PV only).
